I have a computer that reaches the xp logo with the purple bar and then reboots. I found one bad memory module and took it out to get to this point. Can anyone help me with this problem?
    Thank you for help!

How did you determine that the memory module was bad? It is possible that the memory slot on the mobo is bad and the module is in fact OK.

    Memory Module

I tried it in another slot on the mother board and had the same problem with that and then used only the one that was still good and got to the point of the windows logo and reboots. It did not even do that with that memory module in any slot. So I determined it was a bad module?
    Thanks for your response!

Yes - that's the only way to check out memory modules bar using specialised equipment :) Interesting to note ....
As you might imagine there is not a clear cut solution to a situation like this - I suspect a hardware problem rather than a software problem, possibly a flakey PSU or hard drive problem.

Checking out a PSU is not a DIY task and the only simple method is by substitution.

I would check out the hard drive using the manufacturer's disk diagnostic software to confirm or eliminate the possibility of a problem in this area .....

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Western Digital

As the computer will not boot you will need to determine the make physically. While the case is open (I assume a desktop?) check that the fans are running when you attempt to boot.

If you have a retail XP installation CD it might be worth running fixboot from the Recovery Console

    Thank you Pete

    Hey Pete,

I just wanted to let you know I got it fixed. I had to do a fixboot and then a repair. The memory module was bad though and now just have to get some more memory and a few of the motherboard drivers. Then should be good to go!

Thank you very much for your help and suggestions!
