    Hello all!

First off, in 'Start and Restore', I have unchecked the box to 'Restart Automatically'.

When idling the computer restarted and when I checked the system log it said (translated from swedish so, bear with me):

Below the message field, 'Data' has the radio button for 'Byte' marked and the value below is 0000: ff 00 00 00

Can this have something to do with running MailWasher, Outlook Express and Internet Explorer under DropMyRights ?

It sounds like the Blaster worm. Click Here to open a page where you can download the removal tool.

To keep the computer from shutting down so you can get and run the tool, go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services, scroll down to and double click on Remote Procedure Call (not the one with Locator appended), set go to the Recovery tab and set all three to "Restart Service," click OK.

Don't forget to go back and set them back to "Restart the Computer" when you've got the worm removed.

Then go get all the Windows updates since a patch has been out for this worm for quite a while.

It'd be a good idea to run a firewall, too.

    Hi Miz!

It has happened once and the computer has been running fine since I posted.

I have SP2 and all Critical Windows Updates installed. I do have a firewall (Norton Internet Security) and it gets updated through LiveUpdate.

If I should be hit by something malicious, I wouldn't fiddle with removal tools ...... ...... I would just roll back to a clean state using Ghost.

I have been running Everest Home Edition on and off during the sessions to check HDD temperatures and I am actually suspecting that EHE plays a role in this. Yesterday, the computer froze and started whining about to little Virtual Memory. That too was a first!

If it happens again, I will check for the Blaster Worm and then go get my Ghost Boot disks.

    Thanks for your input!

    Miz,
I checked the updates to fix the Blaster thingy. I found it in my 'Updates Archive' under SP1a. It is pre SP2 and I found at least two patches, one superceeding the other. SP2 includes the patch.
