we have a linux server here and use a samba server. i have connected a computer running win xp pro but every time I reboot the computer it does not map the network drives. I right click on the drive and say open and it puts the name of the sever before the username. it looks like this server//username. it should only be the user name. once i put the user name in and the password in it lets me open all the mapped drives but it does the same everytime i reboot? Please help. I have more than one computer doing this to me.

Hopefully, somebody will come along with a better response than I have. I don't run Samba.

Dumb comment: Eah, looks like a parsing problem.

But it might help if you revealed, here, what version of Samba that you are using.

This blurb (Older versions of Samba (before 2.010) have a glitch that causes users running Windows 2000 to get bogged down when connecting to a share) came from a site that didn't have any other useful information...

XP had some problems with mapped drives (4th hand rumor--I didn't see it) that may have been cured by a service pack. Is the XP machine up to date on service packs?

I wonder if the information at these links will have any bearing on your problem?

    1. Go to Section 6.3.3

    2. Using Samba -- last two paragraphs.

    3. Setting up the client
