Thanks to all who helped me recover my e-mail files when the Hard drive got zapped.
This has got to be the best site on the webb - where other folks help other folks !

    Now, we are asking again:

Original problem - Old hard drive "C" would not boot up.
The technicians at the PC store said it was a lost cause.
    Reformat and start over.

But you folks said "NO" - get a new drive - make the old one a slave and recover what you can - never start over !

So, my new drive is "C" - my old drive is now "D ".
And we are bit by bit recovering files etc.

    Question:

From my old desktop I would query the properties of a program or file and it gave me the "path" to where the data/file/program was on the hard drive. In "c ", "d ", "e" or "f ". Partitions.

Now on the new drive I'm beginning to set up a new desktop.

However, we cannot find (or remember) all the folders and files within that were on my old desktop.

How can we review the old desktop information - and do a query -so that we may find the "path" to where they were originally installed?

Some I know will need to be reinstalled, yet most will work if only we knew "what" they were and "where" they are.
We're not talking about a program or two. That was a 120 GiG
hard drive pretty well loaded with many many programs.

    Thanks

If the original folder structure is in tact, you should find the desktop shortcuts, etc. here.

    D:\Documents and Settings\your username\desktop

I think you should be able to right click on them in windows explorer and see the path they point to. If they aren't all in that folder, also check D:\Documents and Settings\all users\desktop.
