Hi friends. I'm in a serious dilemma. I record music and use a product called Lightsnake Instrument Cable - which is a cable that (from the computer's motherboard) goes from USB-to-Phono.

The problem is I just switched from one Dell Desk Top to a newer Dell Desktop (both with a Xp OS) and the new computer does not detect the Lightsnake Cable~! I tried a couple small configurations without any success. Please help me make my Lightsnake hardware work! :)

Well the ultimate problem is that its not recognizing it as an audio device. It still comes up as USB Device (?)
So none of that stuff applies yet...

Even though it's recongized as a USB (?), the device doesn't work. It's strange because the previous computer I owned worked just well with it as a "Plug and Play ".

No additional drivers are not needed for this device unless the operating system is a very old one (<= win95).

If its not driver issue it could be the hardware itself.

Is it still correctly recognised in your old computer ?

It functions with the previous computer, so the hardware is OK. Both computers I used are dell's with Windows XP Service Pack 2. The newer Dell I switched to doesn't work with it. Keep in mind I did a reformat and had to get a few drivers online (Dell website) for the computer to run properly. Perhaps I missed a driver? But if I did miss a driver the USB inputs still detect mouses/keyboards, why wouldn't the plug/play Lightsnake work!?

My guess is it's something to do with drivers or some type of OS configuration. I'm using a Dell Dimension 4200c.

The Dimension 4200 is an old system, made at best for Windows 2000. XP should work on it but Dell doesn't have any specific XP drivers for it.

You probably need the chipset drivers for the motherboard. You are presently using the built in XP drivers for onboard components.

If it's an Intel board then get the drivers at the Intel site. But it's probably an nVidia chipset that's needed.

I'm pretty sure I already installed the chipset driver provided by the Dell website. Would there be any other likely "cure" to make the lightsnake detected and functional?

Post the Dell site where you got the drivers.

Okay, I'll redo the driver and post the results.
