Briefly, HP Pavilion m7300e desktop was running slow/freezing etc. Extensive troubleshooting to restore functionality was fruitless. Eventually, the system would only boot Safe Mode. When further diagnostics didn't yield definitive results, I conducted a Destructive Recovery. Since then, Windows has ceased operating. Have explored all advance options via F8/F10.

Unable to access backup on external hard drive (WD My Passport Essentials).

The following message appears when using recovery disks: These PC Recovery discs do Not support this PC.

Most of the diagnostics highlighted below have been explored:

    HP website:

    Start-up / Shutdown / Power "º
    System Recovery / Backup / Restore "º

    Windows ((Missing/Corrupt Files)) Update

Neil: Yes, twice. Call One: I was informed that my PC is out-of-warranty and obsolete (2006) and that HP does not offer technical support for out-of-warranty PC's. Call Two: After detailing the situation, I was offered three options, one of which was in-home tech support (one visit) for $199.99. After an extensive wait, however, I was informed that "the system" could not be set up for said service.

SpywareDr: Thank you for your contribution. How it could help resolve my situation, however, is unclear. A past destructive recovery was successful.

SpywareDr, as I read it, the 'Purple Code' is installed when HP install the XP OS when new?
This is like the trial time set for some software?
I would be pushed into using Delpart to completely wipe the HD and install a fresh XP Pro OS. What say you? Neil.

When a HP/Compaq computer is (was) setup at the factory a numerical signature of the hardware configuration is created and encoded into the restore disc for a particular computer. When you attempt to reinstall your system from this restore disc, it checks to make sure it's the exact same same system. If it's not, you get a error with the string "Code Purple ".

The thread above discusses a workaround.

    Hi SpywareDr,

I don't have an HP, but the workaround seems to have done the trick by deleting the offending ".py" file.

I hope the OP reads the link more thoroughly.
