    Hi!

I wanted to know of the Microsoft Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005 is an OS? Right now I have Windows XP installed. Can I Install the Media Centre and use it to organize my music and videos? Or does it become an operating system?

Also, If I'm running a Windows 98 OS can I install Windows Office XP on it? Will I encounter any difficulty?

    Thanks!

My limited understanding is that Windows Media Center "is" an OS and if you wish to install it, you'd need to partition and have a double boot.

    Installation

I'm running Windows XP right now. If I wanted to install the Media Edition would I run the risk of losing my hard drive items? Would it do some kind of drastic change to my computer? Or will it just load the media centre capabilities?

Thanks for all your help!:) :D

Does this answer your question ....
If you can indeed buy a copy - which it would appear that you cannot the only way of installing it and protecting the data on your existing hard drive would be to create a new partition and install it as a dual boot system - as James posted.

Bear in mind that your PC must meet the requirements of a Media Centre PC for the install to be successful and for all the functions to work as intended.
