Okay, everytime I try to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition I get this error:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v418/ridemyrocket/error.jpg

So I clicked skip, after retry didnt work. Everything went along and it finished copying the files. Then it brings me to a blue screen that says "setup is starting windows." When that happens, it just stops there. I waited for about 15 minutes and still nothing happened.

So I turned off the computer and tried again. It did the same thing.

    Any suggestions?

Hi tom248 - Welcome to the Board :)

Are you trying to load XP to an existing computer or to a new build? Is this an Upgrade to XP or a clean install?

If an upgrade over an existing OS You receive an I/O device error message when you try to use your CD drive in Windows XP may apply.

Troubleshooting this problem is a matter or trial and error :)

First check that the XP CD is not dirty or damaged.

Check the ribbon cable connections for the CD drive and the hard drive - pull them and replace.

Check that the hard drive is set as Master or Cable select and has the appropriate type of ribbon cable - 40 strand for Master, 80 strand for Cable Select.

Check that the CD drive is jumpered as Slave if connected to the same IDE controller as the hard drive - i.e. plugged into the same ribbon cable or as Master if plugged into the secondary IDE controller.

If you have the chance, swop the CD drive for another which is known to work.
