I am currently running windows 98 OS and trying to install Windows XP Pro and run dual OS's (which I had setup previous to formatting the perition with Win XP on it).

Everytime I try to run the Win XP installation program, when I think it is all going smooth, it gives me an error, saying that there was a fatal error and something to do with an I/O device.

The error message I get is as follows (as observed in the setup error log file):

    ***

    Error:
Installation Failed: G:\i386\asms. Error Message: The request could not be
performed because of an I/O device error.

    ***

    Fatal Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be
    installed.

The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

    ***

Please get back to me with some help on this topic. I have no idea where to even start.

Any ideas please email me at Removed for security reasons by PeteC
    Thank you
