    Hi dhouse and welcome.

    - Hangs at what point?
    - New behavior or if not, when did it start?
    - What flavor of XP and what SP?

We like to keep all the replies as part of the thread. That way more folks who may have ideas can see what has happened and after the problem is fixed, we have a complete record of what was done in the archives in case someone later on has an identical problem.

Windows XP Pro hangs at shutdown

    Hello Newt

It seems to hang at the very last stage of shutting down, then I have to hit the reset button.

It may have started when i attempted to upgrade my memory, but not sure, the computer did not detect the memory I wanted to upgrade to, so I put the orginal memory back, I think that's when it may have occurred. When I did this I was running Win XP Pro SP1.

I am running Win XP Pro SP2. I believe it has something to do with a windows shell, but I can't find the download for the fix.

Windows XP Pro hangs at shutdown

I think the problem has been resolved, it is beleived to be a memory issue, I have learned that the SDR ramm PC133 is not compatiable with my 733MHZ CPU, I but in a PC100 and problem went away, so now I stuck with 2-PNY 256MB PC133 SDRAM chips, but I'm willing to trade with someone if they have any PC100 256MB or higher.
