    Hi chaps,

My first post here - and I hope I'm not abusing your hospitality by starting with a problem.
Recently I had the following message come up on the dreaded blue screen . . "STOP C000021A (fatal system error)
The Windows login process terminated unexpectedly with a staus f 0xc0000135 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down "

And shut down it was . .
No matter how hard I tried, every time I rebooted - this was the message.

    I suppose I've learned my lesson - for although this is my work PC - I don't (didn't) do regular back-ups . . .
I won't make that mistake again!

However - I do have a copy of Powersuite (Spotmau), and ran a data transfer over to an external hdd - - and can only hope that it's copied all the important files . . . .

I then re-installed my Windows XP (Professional) and booted up the machine.

    Hmm
Whilst it went through an apparently normal procedure - - after the desktop background opens and just before the 'Welcome' screen appears - I get the message (in a box marked 'Explorer.exe')
"The procedure entry point SHCreateThreadRef could not be located in the library SHLWAPI.dll "

This has resulted in a complete loss of any desktop, no task bar and, of course, no windows explorer . . which makes using the PC extremely difficult - and the vast majority of applications such as MS Office non-functional
Apparently this problem is connected to the XP SP2 - and I need to uninstall it, reboot, and then reinstall, using the "$NtUninstallKB834707$\spuninst\spuninst.exe" - -

Unfortunately - my darling PC won't recognise this instruction at all . . . .

and just looks at me blankly . . .

Has anyone else experienced similar - - and survived to tell the tale - - or am I looking at a complete re-format:mad::(

    I'd start with...

    Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD, and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, which is not listed, try using Hitachi tools.
