    Windows XP HE
    Dell 2400 pc

Troubleshooting pc for a friend. I get messages
"Windows could not load installer for display "
"Windows could not load installer for monitor "

I am unable to access Display Properties from Control Panel.

I finally found a file in Windows/System32/DLLcache/desk.cpl which opens Display Properties. I placed this file on the desktop and can open and configure Display Properties from there.

What do the two messages means? Can I get Display Properties back in the Control Panel? HELP!!!

    Simple (possible?) solution first. ;)

If this happend just recently, try rolling back the system using system restore to a restore point before the problem happened. Any programmes installed after this restore point will need reinstalling though.

Tried all those programs already and unfortunately System Restore was not turned on prior to the time I got the pc for troubleshooting.

I took a quick look on my WinXP Pro box and my "Desk.cpl" is located in my C:\Windows\System32 folder. As per this link => http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000136.htm just take a copy of the Desk.cpl you found in C:\Windows\System32\DLLcache folder and copy it to the System32 folder.
