I am runing Windows XP SP3 and IE8. When I boot my computer, about half way through the statup programs, I get a Windows Explorer error "Cannot find 'File:///' ". I have tried tracking down the problem using boot logging without success. How can I track down the quilty program.

    Thanks

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

You appear to be confusing Internet Explorer with Windows Explorer .....
I have moved your thread to the Windows XP forum with title edit.

Is that the full error message you receive? Anything after /// ?

    Thank you.

The error messages window says Windows Internet Explorer error. The entire error message is "Cannot Find 'File:///'. Make sure the path or Internet Address is correct "

    Hi,
I ran the Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware. All they showed were som tracking cookies which I quarentined and removed. I downloaded th dds script and ran it. Do I need to start a new thread in the Malware and Virus Removal forum to post the logs.

I'm having the same problem with my wife's laptop. I don't have access to the machine today, but I'll follow this thread and also the one in the malware removal forum to see if I something useful shows up.

This issue seems to have been resolved by doing some clean up.

    Thanks
