windows xp display properties bug

    Help please..Solid bug! Every time at approx 4-5 min after a boot, my display properties change with a CHIRP. This will fail in safe mode boot also if I select myself as the user, but does not fail safe boot with administrator selected. PC has been scanned by NAV 2004 (removed now) AVG, AntVir XP, Trend Micro Housecall, SpyBot, Hijackthis, Ad-Aware. Bug is 3months old, Pc is 2yrs old.
    Upgraded Win98 to XP home 1 1/2 yrs ago. Fails with Cable modem off, external speakers off, no items checked on in MSCONFIG startup.

    Run eventvwr.msc and check for system errors that coincide with the fault to see if any clue is therein.

    Also please check these.
