I have just joined because I found hat you had a forum with windows XP problems on it and i have one.

whenever I boot up my computer which is running windows XP professional it never boots up first time. It will sometimes reach the desktop screen and then when you attempt to click on somthing the mouse freezes and the computer beeps which forces me to restart. when i restart it always has to scan file fat 32 on the hard drive for errors and it always seems to be the same file (serial 3724-180C) and sometimes when it has done this it still freezes. If anyone can help it would be muchly appreciated.

Have you tried to boot into safe mode?

It beeps, that will probably mean a "basic" problem.

Have you cleaned the dust out of the case? You need to clean the dust out of the case regularly. Check around and "under" the fans. (loosen the dust with straightened paper clip).

Working in Safe Mode loads a set of standard drivers and does not load startup programs.

The beep may be telling you something is seriously wrong.

I'd guess you have a bad hard drive. Run the manufacturers diagnostic or some other good one to confirm the diagnosis:
