Hello and thanks for helping....I have windows xp on a desktop that wont completely boot up fully. Start-up is normal but when operating system boots up all desktop icons are missing and the mouse arrow is the only thing visable with my custom wallpaper. tried safe mode and it wont boot in safe mode. Just curious what options i had. I would try a xp disk that came with pc but i cant find it.

Have you tried System Restore? Neil.

System Restore is almost a non-starter if the computer will not boot to a screen with access to the Start button or to Safe Mode.
    What happens when you try?
I would look again :) Do you recall if the CD was a full retail install disk or a Recovery Disk?

If you press Ctrl+Alt+Del does Task Manager come up? If so File > New Task and type in the Open box .....

    %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe > Enter

I have not used this method of accessing System Restore, but it should work.

If you can borrow an XP installation CD of the same Service Pack level as the OS on the computer you should be able to make a Repair install using your COA.
