I was thinking of getting a new laptop but i'm not really interested in using Vista as my OS.

Is there any way to get a laptop like say from Dell etc. with XP?
If not, could i install both Vista and XP on the laptop, or is it recommended?
What are the system requirements to install both OS on a laptop?
Is it useful to have to OS?

Some companies will sell you a laptop with Vista which you can downgrade to XP if your request them.

You can install both of them or even more OS on one machine. No problems there but install in the recommended order [XP first then Vista] and make sure that you have drivers for BOTH the OSs.

You could land up in sticky situation with some programs or utils if you install both XP & Vista. Windows XP System restore is one of them. Vista destroys all of XP's restore points. [go figure]

The system requirements are dictated by the OS having the most system requirements. The only issue I can forsee is of hard disk.

Depends. If you have a critical program which does not run on the latest ( & not necessarily the greatest OS ;) ), you can go this way. Or if you want to fiddle with different OS while preserving your sanity .... :D

Why would that be? Have you actually tried Vista? If not how do you know you aren't interested in Vista?

i've actually tried vista a couple of times when i used my friend's laptop to setup the wireless connection and to install a couple of games for him.
And i find that the layout for vista isn't as good as the layout for windows.
Probably i'm just so used to the old windows that makes me prefer XP.

But my main concern is games. I'm afraid that some games that i play cannot operate in Vista.

Yes Arie, I agree with you that you should try it first, but depending on my own experiences, I would not use Vista right now but would wait for Windows 8 [or is it Windows 7 ?].

    Statutory Warning : YMMV :D
