We have just got a new computer which came yesterday, we used it in the afternoon and loaded on our music and picture files and used the internet, that was about it.

When we tried to switch the computer on this morning we got the blue screen saying 'Windows has failed to start'.

We read through the user manual we got with the PC and it said to insert the Windows Vista CD and repair Windows, we tried this and this did not help, we just got the Blue screen again.

After this we were told by the manual to try re installing Windows Vista, this did work, until the Windows Live updates were complete, we restarted the computer as requested and sure enough we got the blue screen again.

We are using Windows Vista Home Premium including service pack 1 and is the 64-bit software.

I'm really not sure what to try now and any help would be so useful.

    Thank you

    Simon

baconandcheez - Welcome to the Board :)

I am sorry to hear of problems with a brand new computer and can understand your disappointment anf frustration.

IMHO - Under the circumstances - failure on second boot from new - your first port of call should be the manufacturer's support.

We are always willing to help in solving computer problems, but in this case I feel we should step back and let the manufacturer fulfill their responsibilities first.

I might be able to help you get back on track, but as Pete said, to fix the problem contact the manufacturers.

At startup, before you would normally see the Vista loading screen, start tapping the F8 key. When you get to the Boot Options menu, select Last Known Good Configuration. That should get you back into Windows, but then you will need to discover which update/s are causing the problem.

You can change the settings in Control Panel -> Windows Updates -> Change settings (left-hand menu).
