I just put my computer together. I'm at the point where I need to load windows xp into the computer. I turn it on, windows begins to load all it's file, then it freezes on the blue screen where it says at the bottom START UP IS LOADING WINDOWS wnd all the lights on the keyboard shut off. I've checked all my connections and they're all good. I don't know what to do about this.

Incase anyone needs to know, it's the Intel D925XCV with a 3.8ghz Pentium D chip, dual 512mb Kingston DDR2 ram, and a Maxtor 300gb hard drive.

    Thanks!

Have you added any extra hardware, like "old" PCI cards, USB connections etc? If so, remove them and try reconnecting them when Windows is installed.

Try installing with only the basics.

PS Welcome to the BBS :)
PPS A connection may be "iffy ". Pull and reseat the connections.

I've unplugged and re plugged all my connections, everything on the computer is brand new and the only extras I have is a video card.

    mmmm...
Check the Windows CD is not scratched or dirty (try it on another computer).

Have you made any changes in the BIOS/CMOS settings? If so, reset to default.

When it "locks up" are any drive LEDs on?

Also, if you are using two sticks of RAM, just use one (you can check the RAM with the diagnostics in my signature).

Have you pulled everything? (Don't pull the CPU out). You can take out the Video Card and clean the connectors with a soft pencil eraser (although it does not sound like a time when Windows would be trying to access the video card... everything should be at a basic level).

I think you should see a running list of which files are being loaded at the bottom of the screen (again, I think). Can you see what file is being loaded or what stage the installation is at? "START UP IS LOADING WINDOWS" I suppose. I have not come across a problem at that stage. I would not know what is loading at that time.

Are you loading Windows from the cd or from a hard drive where Windows is already installed?
