I just upgraded my ram from 32 to 128MB. I have an AMD K6 motherboard. The hardware seems to recognize it but Windows 98 will boot only to safe mode. I get the following error message:
    Windows XMS Driver version 3.95.
ERROR: HIMEM.SYS has detected unreliable XMS memory at
    address 03F00006.
How do I get HIMEM.SYS to recognize the new memory?
Is HIMEM out of date or something else?
    Thanks
    Mike

Does Bios count off the correct memory?

    How many sticks.

It is possible the stick is not seated, or a bad stick of memory.

Does this M/B need the memory in pairs, if so remove one pair. No error rotate pairs. No error then put all back. No error now with all in then something was not seated.

If pairs not required. Pull them all but 1 and reboot, if error remove this stick and replace it with one of the others.

If no error with the one you left in then put one back and reboot. If the problem returns remove this stick and put aside continue to next stick. Do with each untill problem returns. If you did remove 1 stick because of an error then put it back again to be sure, if it still produces an error then it is bad.

No error now with all in then something was not seated.

    It WORKED!!

It WORKED! Thank you so much!
There's 2 DIMMS, 64MB each. I just switched their slots and it booted right up.
Now, with the new ram, do I need to modify Config.sys for any reason or enter any new commands? Right now it shows FILES=60.
Thanks again. You folks are great!
