This is the first time I have ever run into this problem. I formated a hard drive and started to load Windows 98 SE from a CD as I have hundreds of times before. However, this time it went to the first scan screen, then the black screen where it says that the Windows files are loading. Then, after about 15 seconds it throws me back to a blinking prompt for the CD drive letter and will not proceed. Does anyone know why it does this, and how I can proceed to load Windows on this system? I might also add that I tried reformatting several times and reloading, and also have tried loading both from the cd and from the hard drive itself and nothing seems to work.

You could try installing from the hard drive.
Insert your boot disk and start the computer.

    Select, Start with CD-ROM support.
When you get the A:\ prompt put the 98CD in the drive
and type the following hitting "Enter" after each line.

    c:
    mkdir win98cab

[now type your cd-rom drive letter, lets say it's E:]

    e:
    cd\win98
    copy *.* c:\win98cab

[after files are copied, type the following]

    c:
    cd\win98cab
    setup

This should install from the hard drive.

You might also try fdisk and format again.
