windows visual settings problem

    hello,my problem is everytime i try to change any visual settings in display properties i get an error message.( the visual sytles could not be applied)..ive been searching the looking for answers..the kellys cornor answer doesnt work,and my themes is set to automatic and running...i think i know the problem,i had tuneup xp program and it ran an auto shedule and did something..now that program change change alot of visual settings,and i got a prompt that a windows file was replaced and prompted for the cd.i accidently canceled out,so whatever file it replaced is probly the reason.but i dont know what file

    Try running sfc /scannow from the Start > Run window. Be prepared to supply the XP install disk. Be patient, it takes several minutes to complete. It will check for corrupt or missing Windows files and replace them from the original install CD or other sources.

    hey thx for reply..the sfc /scannow is another problem all together with me..it asks for the cd to replace and i put my slipstreamed copy of xp in and nothing happens..so i read the tutorial about extracting the the i386 onto my drive but when it comes to changing the registry settings i dont have the ones listed that that they have..in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
    CurrentVersion\Setup i have installation sources key not one labeled source path..anyway i changed the installation source key to c:\ where my i386 folder is at c:\i386 still asks for the cd :(
