I got SP 2 as an update (took over an hour to download). OK, so ... like what does it actually do?

OK... I have to change my statement :D

    See My Article:

Besides just "repackaging" all updates released since SP1, SP2 packs a few new or updated features:

    • Native support for Blu-ray burning
    • Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack
    • Windows Search 4.0
    • Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify Wi-Fi Configuration
    • Wi-Fi connection performance updates (faster re-connect after resuming from sleep mode)
    • Support for new 64-bit CPUs from VIA Technologies
    • Increases in power management efficiency (reportedly by around 10 percent)

Yes, that update would be welcome even in this Vista fan's zone. :D

I doubt that MS will do this. I must say though, for all of the negative criticism of Vista, I quite like it. It is aesthetically pleasant & is simpler to use than XP. I think anyhow.

I would agree with both points, and add that it is more stable in my experience, as well.

Yeah, I have downloaded some dopey applications, like Flock & others, & eventually I have managed to uninstall them (they are sometimes reluctant to go) & Vista has always bounced back. I think that it just got a bad reputation early on & it stuck. I use McAfee AV & I have been given a lot of stick by people on some forums. Yet I have found it to be fine. It may be a little resource heavy, but it seems lighter than Norton. It is highly rated by AV Comparatives.org http://www.av-comparatives.org/home so I don't know what all the invective is about.

It is a shame that Vista has become a synonym for turkey in the computer world...

I disagree with those that call it "Mistake Edition 2 ", after Millennium's nickname... and I never ran Me...

    Apparently so :D

"A PC World article dubbed Windows Me the "Mistake Edition" and placed it 4th in their "Worst Tech Products of All Time" feature." If Wikipedia is to be believed... :D

I actually used Windows ME when my grandpa had it as his computer. I did all I could to get it as stable as possible but the computer just kept crashing. Finally I told him to go buy a MAC instead.

I know for a fact that my system won't be able to run Windows 7 very well since I had a bad experience with Vista and went back to XP. When my computer dies then I will most likely buy a new system with Windows 7. :)

I think you need at least a gig of RAM with Vista & at least a relatively high GHz running speed. It seems very power hungry. I have 2 browsers open at the moment (Opera & SeaMonkey) & I am running at 4% CPU & 89% RAM. That seems a bit high for what I am doing at the moment . I have been told that this is not uncommon on Vista. I think you need an Intel Core 2 Duo chip just to run Home Premium. I was on a slow bulletin board recently when my AV (McAfee) cut in to do an automatic full scan, it froze my laptop! I have it now on manual scan only...

    I need more power!

If you click the My System link under my user name, those system specs were the exact same when I had Vista Ultimate. When I first installed Vista I had about 50 processes running in task manager. By tweaking Vista I was able to get the number of processes down to about 35. All my games still lagged like crazy despite my tweaking of Vista. I was so tired of my system lagging that I decided to go back to XP Professional and have no regrets since my processes that are running in task manager is about 20. IMO XP is way faster than Vista and I consider Vista to be a resource hog.

Oh yea, Vista is a resource hog, but give it resources & it runs circles around XP :D

On the same system, Windows 7 runs circles around Vista
