Hi all ... newbie here with a Vista problem:

I have a new computer (Gateway) and I am running Vista ... it was working ok, until fairly recently when I updated my iTunes with my library (see below) ... since then it restarts itself when I run iTunes for about 30 mins- 1 hr ... is this a glitch others have had with Vista? I am curious to know if there is a patch or a diagnostic I can run before bringing my desktop into the shop.
FYI- this computer is not connected to the internet ... the only thing that might be relevant recently is that I used "ipod Rescue" in order to save my library (my old library was wiped on an old laptop)-- when I used this to get my files back I wedged a paper to hold down the "enter" key so I did not have to keep hitting it for every 50 songs it uploaded (it was the free copy)- it worked fine as far as my uploading my library but soon after this is when I noticed this problem ... it seems like the computer restarts itself now when I am loading new music from a CD and/or a CD is in and I am editing song titles ... not sure if this is relevant at all- but maybe ... so I thought I would post it.
Recently my computer was in hibernation and would not respond to keystrokes or mouse movements so I needed to shut it off completely ...not sure if it is related.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

Go to Start -> Computer, right-click on the fixed drive/s (you will need to do one at a time if you have more than just the C: drive) and select Properties. Go to the Tools tab and run Error Checking. Check the boxes for both the file system and surface check. It may take several hours to run.

Itunes needs to work with Vista, not the other way 'round. You will need to go the Itunes support website and see if you can get any information there. You may need to uninstall and reinstall Itunes.

If the system goes into sleep mode (this is different from Standby or Hibernation), try pressing the power button once. Look up information at the Gateway website (or in the User Guide) about power saving modes for Vista.

Look in Event Viewer for errors recorded at the time of the restart. Double-click on the event listing for more detailed information.

    Matt
PS, something I thinking about. Itunes may be set to check with it's server after 30 minutes of it starting. You don't have an internet connection, so the system may crash.
