Hi there, I'm having trouble installing windows vista. Hoping someone can help me.

Currently, I'm running windows xp professional. I'm using the core 2 duo e6600 with asus p5w-dh deluxe card (intel 975 chipset). The advisor says my computer can run vista, so I tried installing it.

I d/l the 32bit version from the website. burned it onto a sony dvd-r using alcohol 120 at 4x write speed. then i rebooted and put the disc in. i get to the first screen with the gray line progressing from left to right. that goes along ok. then, i get the next screen, and it hangs. i only see the gray progress line at the bottom. I can't even see the windows logo that is supposed to be at the top. Can anyone please tell me where i went wrong in my installation and how i can try to fix it? Thanks!

I had a happier experience with 5728: managed to install it from the hard disk, by mounting the iso with Alcohol 120% under XP and installing to an empty partition. At first I was a little scared, because the installer copied the setup files to a partition different from the one I chose, but then it proceeded to install on the partition of my choice and deleted the setup files.

First thing I noticed with 5728, RAM usage is slightly lower, even as low as 380 MB when idle. This is a big improvement over RC1 and expecially over beta 2

    Hi,
I am having a different problem with my downloaded RC1. Burnt to a DVD and it installed no problem on my back-up machine, and after using it for a while, decided to install on my main machine as a dual boot with XP Home.

Booted from the DVD, install started but stopped at the first Vista curtain whilst loading files. Tried three times.

Decided to install from inside XP. The install started OK, downloaded updates, started installing files, then came up with a "files may be corrupt message, Error Code 0x80070241 ". Ran an MD5 check which said the hash did not match!

Now I want to re-download the updated RC1 but I am told that I have had the maximum number of keys for Vista. I have used it twice! Can somebody give me the web page address for a download please to bypass the registering process?

    ****,

Now I'm going to have to wait for the MS DVD to arrive, and I hope that that works.
The first copy of Build 5728 that I downloaded installed on one machine by booting from it, but would not install on my other machine, giving me an "Error 0x80070241 "
Downloaded again today, ran the MD5 on the hash, which matched, burned the ISO to a DVD, but again got the same error message during the install.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Pete,

    Thanks for the reply. Fixed!

Although it would not complete the install from Xp, although it started to install, it did install OK booting from the DVD.

However, it is by far the longest install I have ever seen, and some of the long pauses, with apparently nothing going on, will be a bit worrying to the more inexperienced I think.

Yes - that concerned me too - kept an eye on the HD light all the way through to be sure that 'something' was happening :)
