I have a Windows Vista 64bit HP computer. I can post more specs later but I want to initially ask the question and see if anyone else has heard of it or experienced it. Maybe I can find a quick fix or honest opinion.

    1. I start up my trusty computer.
    2. Boots just fine to the login screen. So I enter my password hit enter and wait for windows to completely boot up.
    3. The desktop comes on but just for a second then goes to black, but I can still see the taskbar.
    4. After a few seconds (5-10) the desktop comes back with all my desktop icons and the taskbar continues to fill up with my icons.

I remember recently I had some windows updates...but this problem only occurs first thing in the morning after the computer has been shut down a long time. I have the computer running all day and shut it down at night. And the updates were 10 days ago and I've only had this problem happen 2 times...Last 2 days. I was thinking it might be my video card so I'm currently installing a new driver...Still want to ask the community if maybe anyone else has had this and what it might be.

    Thanks for reading,
    Summer :p

I Had a problem just about the same only on 32 bit. When I turned the computer on in the morning it would come on then black screen, I could type my password and log onto windows. I turned the monitor on and off five or six times and it would clear up, Thought it was video card, replaced the card but no joy, it was the monitor.

well I don't get the black screen until after I login and even then its not the whole screen its just the desktop the taskbar is still perfectly visible. thank you for your reply. I've done some searching on the internet and it seems there were a lot of "black screen" problems but they were mostly related to video cards and monitors. I'm thinking this is more something to do with windows because like I stated its only the background and the taskbar is still there. I did install a new video card driver going to see how that goes tomorrow morning after booting up. will post back here if it continues or not.

I would try another monitor if you have a extra one
