hi ... i'm curious ... how do i change my Windows User Name ... the name that appears when i'm logging off? thank you very much chris.

In order to change the username of an account on Windows 2000 you will need to have an account with Administrator rights. If you're logged in as Administrator or have an account with Administrator rights, follow the below steps.

Open Control Panel.
Double-click the Users and Password icon.
Make sure "Users must enter a user and password to use this computer" is checked.
Highlight the account you wish to change the username for and click the Properties button.
Within the Properties you'll be able to change the User name.

Be advised this will change the login user name. It will NOT change the name that shows in the file structure under Documents and Settings. I.E. User is named A. You change login to B. User will enter B at login screen. However, to navigate to My Documents (under Documents and Settings) they would open A.

This article is on how to migrate profiles on a domain to Win 2000. It should work for a new user, just create a new user (don't change the user name as listed above, but create an entire new user). Log in as the user, then log back out. Log back in as administrator. You can then migrate the user profile from the old user id to the new.
