I have installed the download shown below at least 4 times, but every day Update tells me I need a critical update and wants me to install it again. It appears in my update history. I have asked Microsoft but they cannot give me a solution. Other updates once downloaded, stay downloaded! Has anyone else had this problem and solved it or can offer a solution?

    Q329414: Security Update (MDAC 2.1)
Download size: 814 KB, 2 minutes
This security update applies to a component of Windows known as the Microsoft Data Access Component (MDAC). Please install now to help protect your Windows-based computer. For more information, read the associated Microsoft Security Bulletin at http://www.microsoft.com/security.

    rutland,

A lot of people have had problems with the update site, particularly since it was 'improved' last November.

The link in your post didn't work for me but I found the relevant bulletin. This is a pretty old patch (20/11/02) which XP users don't need anyway.

Have you tried getting it as an executable from the Windows Catalog site;http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp
You will have to select your OS and use the Advanced Search option to limit your search to Security updates. I don't know if this will make any difference but it's worth a try.

Then again, if it's already in your d/l History perhaps you should believe it. MS DO make mistakes!

rutland--I did not install this particular update, but often the number (in this case Q329414) of an installed Critical (and maybe Security) Update shows up on the Update Version line of IE Help|About Internet Explorer. If it is there, you should be able to ignore Windows Update's offering it repetitively.

Thanks all. I ran the version checker mentioned by Mark62 and I do have version 2.7. One would have hoped that windows update would have known that it is a later version than the one offered! I suppose I shall just have to put up with a daily offer of an un-wanted update.
