No matter how I access the www.update.microsoft.com page, it will not load and IE hands. The only way to get my system back is to C.A.D. and stop IE. It hasn't been working for about 90 days. I am running XP SP2, IE 7, Trend Virus, and Cyber-Sitter. I even tried it with Virus and Content Blocker off and security setting at medium. All other web pages work.

Have you tried it with Cyber-Sitter disabled?

Check to be sure pc clock-date is correct.

Are you getting the following error message:
    "[Error number: 0x8DDD0004]
The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. Take the following steps to try solving the problem:
    Refresh the page.
In Internet Explorer, delete your Temporary Internet Files by going to the Tools menu and clicking Internet Options.
Close and then re-open Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer (Add-ons Disabled) mode only prevents the use of ActiveX controls, including those used by the Microsoft Update website. To get updates using this browser mode, you need to turn on Automatic Updates on your computer or visit the Windows Update website.

If these steps don’t work, try visiting the site later or using the resources provided below.

    cole59 - Welcome to the Board :)

When you say it will not load how far does it get - as far as scanning your computer or just nowhere?

You should put these sites into your Trusted Zone in IE and allow them as exceptions in your firewall .....

    http://*.update.microsoft.com
    https://*.update.microsoft.com
    http://download.windowsupdate.com
    http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/

I really don't know why IE 7 hangs when you try to connect to Microsoft Update - if you revert back to IE 6 do you experience the same problem?

Hi, cole59. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

I think Pete typo'd the 3rd URL he provided. I think it should be
    http://download.windowsupdate.com
(without the period between windows and update).

Pete, I'm sorry, I was about to PM you this info so you could make a stealthy fix in your post :) but cole59 might have already read your post and might miss the fix (since edits do not trigger thread update e-mail alerts).

    Still Not Fixed Yet

In reply to all of your helpful suggestion/quesitons...
No, I still don't have it fixed yet
No, I don't get any error code, what I get is a blank web page and the load bar at the bottom showing 3 green bars filled in, and there it sits for ever with the hour glass on the cursor and only a C.A.D end will clear it.
Yes, I have tried it with my Trend & Cybersitter disabled and I have put the update links in my "okay" lists in Trend, Cybersitter, and IE.
It is frustrating because I now get security warnings that I have 6 pataches to update (from the Trend security module).
I'm going to re-read all your postings and see if I missed something. I'm on DSL and had automatic updates turned on and it worked fine for a year or more, until now.:(
