Every time I do a Windows update the same one always appears

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2656351)

and every time it tells me the update was Successful it appears 8 times in my update list

    Windows 7 Home 64bit

Hi paulbristow. The first thing I would try is to try installing the update manually and see if that will allow Windows Update to stop offering you that update over and over again. Download the .Net Framework Update from here, Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.

If the update installs successfully but Windows Update still thinks you need to install it then try this. First reboot Windows. Then open Windows Update and click Check for Updates to allow Windows Update to refresh itself.

If the update is still being offered then select the update and click on Hide Update so you won't be notified about it anymore. See if that helps.

That is exactly what I have done and the update came back so I have hidden it, just needed to know why this happens, do not like hiding updates but if that is the solution I will have to accept it, thanks for your time.

Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall/Change Microsoft .Net Framework4 Client Profile > Repair. Reboot and then try Windows Update again.

If that fails, you might try this: .NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide.

I would follow SpywareDr's advice and see if reinstalling .Net Framework 4 solves the issue. If reinstalling .Net Framework 4 doesn't work and you are still offered the update then hiding the problematic update will probably be your best bet for resolving the problem.

Tried all suggestions but the update keeps coming back, so as advised I have hidden the update, did not try the clean up tool as looked a bit drastic when reading about the issues it can cause.

Thanks for all of your help.
