Windows update has stopped working for me. Has anyone else had this problem and know a solution?

    Hi Grhouse, and welcome aboard,

Yeah, it doesn't work for me, either (on my desktop), although it works on my laptop. I'll be interested to see what thoughts the experts have.

    grhouse,
I suggest you do a search for windows update in this XP forum and you will be entertained for ages as there is a wealth of info on this problem as it can be one of MANY possible problems from corrupted ActiveX file(s) to a proxy problem.
Speaking of proxy problems, this caused me a couple of months grief sometime ago. I unticked "Automatically detect settings" and only set a manual proxy (or none depending on the ISP preferences). This fixed my most recent Windows Update woes.
    It may help for U?

    Windows Update

Thanks everyone that replied. I actually found the answer on the Windows Update help page. I had to re-register 4 files.
    Thanks again,
    Gene
