I have just installed XP on a new machine and have done most of the updates, but NOW on the final few, it goes through the install/update process but then at the end NONE of them are installed and it gives this error:

    Installation Summary

The following updates failed to be installed successfully:

Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer (Windows XP)
    Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1
Update for Windows XP HighMAT Support in CD Writing Wizard (KB831240)
Microsoft Corporation - Sound - Creative AudioPCI (ES1370), SB PCI 64/128 (WDM)
    ATI Technologies, Inc - Video - All-In-Wonder 128 AGP
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB834707)
    Windows Media Player 10

Why is windows Update suddenly failing in the final stretch?
    Thx,

Yes, that didn't help.. each was bombing individually. What I ended up having to do is download the Critical Update executable manually (others were optional) and install it from my hard drive. Oddly, enough after it installed from here all the other updates disappeared from the Windows Update list (says there are no more to do now). Guess it included the others <shrug>
