OK. Windows update is being a pain lately, when it updates your computer before you go to turn it off... Well now, it has gone too far!

When I press the ON button, the computer loads, you know with all the noises and the 'Windows Theme' tune when starting, but the computers sreen remains black as if it didnt turn on. :(

This has happened twice so far, normally right after a Windows Update has asked me to restart the computer. Last time it happened I looked the problem up, and a technician from windows told me to turn it off, and remove the battery for about 10 mins and then re-install the battery and try again. It worked fine. But now, its not so fine.

Could this be because of a 'faulty' update or because i had malware on my computer before the update? Problem is, before i update anything, i always do scans for malware and viruses yet they come up with nothing.

If ANYONE could help me with this, it would be very much appreciated! :)

    Thanks in advance! :D

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

Can you see the splash screens when the computer first starts up (like a Dell, HP, Compaq, etc screen)? If you don't then it is not a Windows problem. If you do see something on the screen, make a note of what the last thing you see is and tell us.

He suggested taking the battery out, disconnect the power adapter as well, of course. When the power is disconnected, press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds or more. That is a BIOS reset, it shouldn't have anything to do with Windows.

See how that goes, two times is not the sign of a disaster, but yes, you should be concerned that something might not be right. You don't want to go charging off making major changes when a reset might fix the problem.

    Thanks for replying Matt...

Yes, I Do See The Dell 'Splash' screen when the computer is loading, but that's it. It just goes black after that. I have also held down the power button to reset the BIOS, but it still doesnt seem to do anything.

I am a little confused. The screen goes black every startup now? You see the Dell splash screens, the screen goes black, but you can hear the Windows logon theme?

Do you see anything after the Dell screens?

Just before the Dell screens finish, start tapping the F8 key. You should get to the Startup Options screen. Choose Low Resolution Mode. Let me know if it runs then.
