I have been trying to comply with the eternal splash screen from MS that "the update is installed but requires a restart to be completed". Every time I either tell it to restart NOW or schedule a time for the restart or just tell it to restart "tonight", it will restart the computer and tell me it is installing updates (about 15 minutes), then restart the computer again and then tell me it is doing something else (I'm sorry, my word-recognition Alzheimer's has removed the correct term from my vocabulary... something like 'registering') the files, and that can take a very long time, up to two hours... but finally, a splash screen comes up (whose message I've never been able to catch) at about 28% (a good guess), the computer restarts and brings up my sign-on page for WIN 10.

After signing in, the usual "dance of death" as all the icons load, the spywares load and then, when I go to Updates in the Settings panel, it By Our Lady says that "the update is installed but requires a restart" to be completed.

I always thought that Windows was the Spawn of Something, but this is just making me cookoo!

I've run the troubleshooters and they either tell me they can't find a problem, or (imagine that!) tell me to "Install and run Windows Update"!

I was wondering if this could be evitiated by doing the update while in Safe Mode, but reading another thread, I see that Ari recommended "hiding the update"... sounds like a plan to me.

    How do we do that?

    Have you done the Restart?
I quite often get this with the Insider program and I just do the Restart and all is sweet.;)
I'm using my Insider comp at the moment and it has just had the latest update on the Insider installed.
    Version 1809 OS build 18252.1000
To delay an update or uninstall an update > Settings > Update and Security > Advanced > Pause updates.
To uninstall an update > Settings > Update and Security > View Update history > Uninstall.

    Hello, Learner! Thanks for replying!

Indeed, I have restarted (like a Chicago voter) early and often. I will try it again, but it seems that I'm missing... "something", somewhere. Perhaps my version of Update is corrupted in some way, but it CERTAINLY seems it should be easier than this!

Well, let me see if I can D/L the latest and greatest... I'll check back tomorrow. Sleep doth o'ertake me.

Been working on it, restarted several times with the same results. So, insanity being defined as trying the same thing over and over expecting a different result, I went back and looked on the net, poked around, then found your post 662517 here from Wednesday and the subsequent replies from 'FUZMIC'.

Installing the latest Update Assistant seems to have worked for him but the only thing I can find on MW Website seems to work only by reinstalling the whole OS, and is dated May 24th 2018.

My problem with that is I have long since mislaid my original key # for registration, AND this computer was originally a WIN 7 64 when new... It got upgraded via the free upgrade program in (2016 ?) and soon thereafter I signed up to the insider program so as to be able to keep abreast of developments. Yet even exploring the Insider Download site page of MS' Software support pages shows only a download for 17758.1, not the latest 17763.1 as well as threatening that "you can never go home again", to shorten the warning.

    I are now offishully conrfused.

See the posts by Mr. Bill and Bobbo on the WIN update rollout stoppage. Explains quite a lot, it do.
