    To disable Window Updates;

    Open Control Panel

    Click on System icon

    When System Properties opens click on Automatic Updates tab and remove the check-mark from "'Keep my computer up to date... "

    NOTE: To modify Automatic Updates settings, you must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.

    You're welcome.

    Regardless of our age we all have the occasional brain fart now and again.

    And you might want to take a look at Big Fix for your updates. Finds more and often quicker than any of the M$ updating options. Sits in the system tray and flashes to inform you when there are updates so you can decide what to do. Free app too.

    Newt, how do I get it--I saw it on my friend's computer running XP but I don't see it on mine.

    Click on the Big Fix link in Newt's response and then scroll about half way down the page and you'll see the link to the Big Fix download page.
