Lately when I do a cold boot, my computer stops to inform me that there is corruption or something wrong with the Windows/system32.. files.
Usually after I hit return every time I get this error, the machine finally boots into windows XP SP3.
Is there any way to fix this problem without destroying all the data on my computer?
I have an HP w/o a Windows disk, but there is a hidden partition with all the windows files to do a restore.
    Thanks in advance.
    Bob

You have an HP - if I am not mistaken, you press F11 on boot to go to the Recovery option. It should offer to recover just the Windows files, and maintain your files, or if it is too far gone, it will only offer a total destructive recovery.....

Check it and find out....... won't hurt anything to look.

Option 2 - is to back-up your important data and reformat the entire machine. If you can get your data, this is probably the best way to go. I end up doing this every 6 months or so for one reason or another.

    Either way - good luck.

I recommend checking the drive for errors. Go to Start\Run, type in chkdsk /f and press Enter. A command prompt window will appear informing you the drive cannot be dismounted etc, just press Y and then Enter, and then reboot.

It'd be important to know what EXACTLY it says, especially about that path.

By doing a boot with the last good configuration, the problem went away. But it keeps recurring from time to time. I usually run sfc/ scannow and that fixes it for a while. I am running XP SP3.
    End of thread :)

You should also check your RAM.

I have also resolved this problem by disabling disk cache in Hardware properties. Try that too.
