I asked our tech support and he said this is the way Win7 is designed. Not that I don't trust him but it's worth asking here, just in case.

I don't know what it's called, but here's what happens:

I'll have no more than a half-dozen windows open and I'll be working in one when, for example, an email comes in and the email window opens, and some of what I was doing in the previous window has to be done again.

I touch-type fast and will be typing away, looking at the source I'm typing from, and will look up to find another window now open and some of what I've done never made it to whatever I was doing it to.

Tech guy said people wanna know when something has changed in a minimized window so M$ made Win7 do this by default.

Can this be changed (provided someone here can figure out what it is I'm actually talking about)?

Does this happens only with your email program or with every other program ?

It happens with other programs too. I haven't figured out the rhyme/reason yet as I've only been using this computer a few weeks. It replaced an identical unit that was doing the same thing (that I'd had 2 weeks but had another problem) and was replaced with:

    Win7 Home on a Dell Optiplex GX620.

4GB RAM if it makes a difference.

THAT looks like what I need, mickzer.

And "focus" was the term my tech support guy used, I just couldn't remember the word.

That article says the default must have been changed on my machine. Since it's a reman computer, 'anything goes'.

It also gives directions on how to put it back to default. This also reinforces my opinion of our tech support... out of 1/2 dozen problems over the last couple of years, they've fixed none.

Windows BBS, on the other hand, has helped me resolve most of my problems (probably ALL, I can't remember any that didn't get answered here).

    Thanks lj50 and mickzer!

I'm gonna mark this thread 'answered'.

Did you try fixing in this the registry.. What is your Foreground Lock set to. Mine is set to 0x0030d40(200000). Edit should read 30d40

No I haven't done anything yet, but I'm armed and ready. I'll wait for a slow afternoon.

Looking further into the links provided here, installing TweakUI should allow me to change the focus too. I've used TweakUI for years but didn't install it for Win7 because, before now, I didn't see a need... I can live with the little arrows on desktop shortcuts that I haven't had since first getting Win95 and getting TweakUI.

But now the little arrows will be gone too!

I d/l & installed TweakUI but couldn't find anything that hinted at changing the "focus ". However, I no longer have the little shortcut arrows.

Using the link that mickzer provided I changed the registry and no longer have the problem.

NOW instead of switching to the active screen, the button just glows and pulses.

    MUCH BETTER!!
