Does anyone know of a way to disable the windows shortcut keys. I've tried some of the popular tools to no avail. Thank you.

This did disable the windows logo key, but that is not what I'm trying to do. Specifically, there are two shortcut keys that are causing problems, Ctrl+A and Ctrl+Z. I would like to completely disable those shortcut options. I've tried the keyconfig tool for Thunderbird to no avail . . . it just doesn't work. I have one client for whom this is causing a major problem and I can't seem to find a way to eliminate windows shortcut keys. They never use any of them, so I don't care if we disable them all or do them selectively. Any other options? Thank you.

    gwhirsch welcome to WindowsBBS,

Perhaps if you explain why you want to disable these keyboard shortcuts (specifically what problems they are causing) we could provide options.

Most applications will conform the the MS standard (ie Ctrl-A select all and Ctrl-Z Undo) and even if you were to disable them in the OS the applications themselves will handle them.

Gladly! The problem is that a partner in a law firm has a new system with a keyboard he is not used to. He uses Thunderbird for his email client and he has developed with this new keyboard what I refer to as "fat finger syndrome!" His left hand apparently will inadvertently depress the Ctrl key and if he hits the A key it will highlight the text in the extensive message he has just typed. The next action will cause the highlighted text to disappear with no way to reverse the action. He gets quite agitated at that point. Similar issue with the Z shourcut. Although the incidents have decreased and he will eventually get used to the keyboard, he would prefer to just completely disable the shortcut keys. They were able to do this in Word, but there is no easy way in Thunderbird. As I mentioned, I tried to use the keyconfig utility available to no avail. It just doesn't work. I was hoping for a registry hack that would disable it for all applications. Thank you.

Not true, the other shortcut Ctrl-Z (Undo) will reverse the action ;)

I just don't understand this one, if however he undos too much then ctrl Y will redo.

You won't be able to do this for all applications, as I said they each handle this independantly. You could remap the ctrl key but this could cause other issues with your clients keyboard use. My advice would be to either get used to the keyboard or buy another one. If you must disable Ctrl then look at something like SharpKeys
