    Hi All,

I have a strange problem or occurrence at my office computer and at home. I think it has something to do with the latest updates from MS.

When I got to my computer in the office on Thursday, the screen was black and I moved the mouse to get out of the screensaver.
There was dialog box telling me that the computer is locked and only the administrator can unlock it. It provided a space for the name and password.
That never happened before. I just clicked on cancel and it disappeared and the computer functioned normally.

Last night at home, for some reason IE8 was not responding, so I did the "3 finger salute" to close the program. After the program closed a windows security dialog box came up asking me to lock this computer. There was no cancel button, just the lock button and since I did not want to lock it, I pressed the power button on the computer and rebooted.
Anyone know what is going on?

    Thanks
    Sven

Hi Sven. Try this click Start< Control Panel< User Accounts< User Accounts< Change the way users log on or off. Make sure both options are checked and click Apply Options when done.

See if that cures the problem.

    Hi Evan,
    Thanks for your replay.
No one logs on or off at the office. At home I am the only one. No Logon required either
This all happened only once, so I don’t know if this was just a glitch or not.
I will keep an eye on it.

    Thanks
    Sven

    Hi Evan
it just happened again at the office. I left the space for name and password blank and pushed OK.
The computer is working fine. what would do this?

Did you check the options in my first post to make sure they were set properly?

Is the computer part of domain? If it is then that lock dialog box would appear regardless of the options that are set in the User accounts options in Control Panel.

Try this, click Start< Run and type control userpasswords2 and hit enter. On the Users tab make sure the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer checkbox is checked. Click the advanced tab and ensure that the checkbox that says require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete is unchecked. Click ok when done and reboot the computer.

    Hi EVAN

I did not get to it. Before any holyday it is always chaotic at our place.
I should have more time next week.
I let you know what happened

There isn't anything else that I can think of. Just to ensure that the dialog doesn't pop-up when you log on to the computer hit the Windows Key and the L button on the keyboard. Does the computer switch users or does the security dialog box come up?

    Hi Evan

As I said before, no one logs on.
The computer is running day and night and only gets rebooted if an upgrade or a power outage requires it.
I will test your latest suggestion to morrow

    Thanks

    Sven

    Hi Evan

After I hit the Windows Key and the L button it goes to "switch user ". No dialog box.

Lets hope it was just a glitch.

Ok great. Since it switched users then that indicates that all of the Windows settings for switching users are correctly configured.

I guess this issue is resolved then?
