Basic problem: TheWindows Security Center Icon has stopped showing up.

    OS is Windows XP Pro
Important - the computer was connected to internet at one time.
It is no longer connected to the internet. The modem is disconnected!

Sequence of events causing a mystery (with results noted).
It is a bit hard to follow - however, we have noted all data, including Caps and Lower case as applicable.

    1. Turn on computeR.

    2. Receive Desktop.

    3. Run SpyBot Search & Destroy.

    4. Problem listed is:
    Windows Security Center.AntiVirusDisableNotify
    Settings Registery change
    HOTKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirus Disable Notify!=...

    5. Run Regedit - check to see what it actually is.
It is the above data (without the !=...) plus:
(Following the word Notify) REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1) (We did not manually change res at this time).

6.Let Spybot fix the listed problem.

    7. Spybot says the problem item had been fixed and removed.

    8. Run Regedit again to check, and sure eneogh, it now reads:
(Following the word Notify) REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0) (We did not manually change reg at this time).

    9. Shut down coMPUTER.

    !0. Restart the computer.

    11. Run Regedit to check, and it now reads:
    (Following the word Notify) REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

    12. Now we actually manually change the reg to make it read:
    (Following the word Notify) REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)

    13. Shut down the computer

    14. Run Regedit to check what is is now and it is back to:
    (Following the word Notify) REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1).

    15. Run Spybot one more time. It again says that data as listed in items 4 above is the problem.

    ****************************************************************

And around and around we go.

So what gives ? Remember, the computer is not on the internet.

Must be a little old program hidden somewhere that runs and regenerates the problem again.

Any suggestions as to what is going on? How to fix this looping problem ?

Suggest you either go online and update spubot to latest version and then update definitions, or stop running it.
