windows root system file

    I am receiving the message on my desktop computer Windows could not start as the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the above file. Where may this file be found?? I have searched Windows download site. Thank you. I have Windows XP microsoft media center edition 2005.
