    Evan,

I downloaded and tried to run your guide to fixing XP as I have a few different problems... All was going OK until a message cropped while installing:

    Irsetup.
Encountered a sharing violation while accessing C:\Program Files\Tweaking.com\WindowsRepair(AllinOne)\files\regfile\file_assocation\7\drive.reg

Any idea how to correct or work around this :confused:Appreciated

Hi reknaw. What step did that error occur on in the program? Did this error come up when the program was resetting the file associations?

Is there any way to ignore the error and just let the program continue its work?

Ok, is this error coming up when you are running the program or attempting to install the application? If its the latter then try downloading the portable version on the tweaking.com download page and see if the program runs properly.

I tried the Portable Version and it downloaded fine, it checked that all the files I needed were there...think it was 449 and they were... then it said it will do a proper re-start and proceeded to do so.... when my pc re-started.... nothing happens automatically so I have to click on the program icon again (which was placed on my desktop) and it does the exact same thing.... 3 o4 times now... I'm just going around in a circle and not getting anywhere with it.

When it restarts - should it not go straight into the program? I tried to by-pass the restart by click the next option (2) at the top but it goes too quickly to restart ...then as I said above.

Try opening the program in Safe Mode and see if it starts up properly there.

Did the same thing in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking I tried both several times and it restarts back to my regular Desktop. Same again when I tried Safe Mode C: and entered the url. In all it starts up OK and checks 449 files... then a couple of other things (very quickly) then re-starts (back to desktop)
Think I'll give up on this, wasted far too much time already - is there anything else that would check out XP for errors.

I have two XP Desktops that I don't use any more but I'd like to get them running to get files off of them. The one I have been trying is soooo slow.... and the other one has the DBoD - that's another story.

Never thought I'd say this but |I have two laptops both running Windows 10 without problems (except initially when I re-set one)

    Thanks for your assistance.

You can try booting the machines into Safe Mode so you can access your personal data on those machine so the information can be copied to an external hard drive. If that is not possible then you may have to pull out the hard drives and hook them up to a working computer using this device, Vantec 2.5" / 3.5" / 5.25" SATA / IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter.

OK Evan, will give those a try. Thanks so much. Should I mark this as resolved. Not sure when I'll get around to the latest suggestions.

That's fine. You can create a new thread if you run into further issues.
