I am running XP SP3 on a refurb Thinkpad T41.

I recently had to replace our T41 Thinkpad due to a major hardware breakage. Plugged the old hard drive into the refurb machine and everything seemed to work normally, except for a persistent Windows Has Recovered from a Serious Error window. (Putting back the hard drive that came with the refurb T41 system and there seems to be no problem.)

I assume the problem is a hardware compatibility issue between the drivers I have on the hard drive and the refurb/new machine. I have upgraded ThinkVantage System Update and upgraded all critical, important and hardware updates. Ditto Windows Update. The error persists, but there is No BLUE SCREEN.

I recently removed "Auto restart" in MyComputer/Properties/Advanced/StartupandRecovery to make sure there wasn't a blue screen I was not seeing, but so far none.

Sending the error to Microsoft says the message is truncated and suggests reinstalling everything!

So, before I have to reinstall everything, I wanted to check to see if the minidumps I have are of any use to determine which driver I need to update.

I am not sure how to send the dump to this BBoard - any help appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Michael

PS - in the software business for 30+ years, so reasonably skilled but I usually have an IT person to help - in this case, that's me!

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

The cause of the error would appear to be .....
which is the ATI Radeon DirectX Universal Driver. I would have suggested simply reloading the ATI drivers, but came across this on Google ( many hits for ati3duag.dll ) .....
