Resolved Windows pointer continually jumping

    the pointer/cursor is jumping away from where it is placed

    when I position the cursor in the password box, it jumps out

    when I am writing a post like this, the cursor will often jump to a different location

    Is there a way to make the cursor more stable?

    Is this the pointer built into the laptop or an external mouse? Try deleting it from the Device Manager and reboot the PC. Windows should find it and install it. That or check for updates.

    That happens to me occasionally on a laptop. My thumbs will bump the touchpad and move the cursor to some other location on the screen.

    Control Panel->Mouse->HIDE Pointer While typing-> Disable it.

    Right now I am using the touch pad (not the haptic function of touching the screen), just the old touch pad method.

    do you mean disable this then reboot and it will be reset by windows?

    Yes.

    If you accidently bump the touchpad while you're typing you can move the cursor to a different location on the screen.

    This problem seems to continue, i.e., I will put the the cursor into a box and it will jump out --

    even though the suggestions others have made have been implemented.

    This may be a glitch in either the computer or Windows, but I have been waiting till I get a new mouse instead of using the touchpad.

    Since I posted originally I have bought a mouse, but the problem persists.

    the Sony warranty is on hardware. I am not sure if this is a hardware or software problem.

    It seem to happen for example with skype. Put the cursor in the PM box and it will disappear and the "My Computer" icon will suddenly light up, as if it has been selected.

    Have other people had this problem with Win 7?
