    Hi,
I want to download and install some windows security patch, from the patch number (for example: WindowsXP-KB823980-x86-ENU.exe, WindowsXP-KB824146-x86-ENU.exe) can we determine which one should be installed first? Or we must check the release date?
    Thank you & best regards.

It generally doesn't matter which order you install.

This is true with XP since the "qchain" functionality is built in. But 9x/ME updates must be installed in the correct order.

    Abraxas,
thanks for that piece of information!

I´ve been asking about it for quite a while in different topics.

    Regards,
    Christer

One other thing to bear in mind is that some of them, particularly IE, are cumulative and if you're "catching up" with updates they are not all needed.

Personally I've never had a problem with installing multiple updates without rebooting. I just say no to the reboot prompt and go onto the next install and reboot when I've finished with my connection.

    Thank you all.
For example, when I read info about WindowsXP-KB824146-x86-ENU.exe, it says "A more recent critical security update is now available. ", is it means more recent update covers this update? How to know which update covers this one?
