Your system is low on virtual memory. To ensure that Windows runs properly, increase the size of your virtual memory paging file. For more information, see Help.

What??? I have 256 MB, I've NEVER had this message. My paging file is 348-768 MB. That's not enough??? Anyway, I'm going to set it to a gig at minimum, let me ASAP if I'm messing up.

When exactly do you get the error.

The specs you gave for physical and virtual memory should certainly be enough.

Powerpoint can trigger that error if certain types of errors are present within a presentation. Also Microsoft Project. And audio playback with certain sound cards.

I get the errors when I run games or something, usually Counter-Strike or Unreal Tournament. But both (if memory serves) require only 64 MB of RAM. I don't know, I was playing CS last night and didn't get the error, so I assume it has enough virtual memory now. If it safe to run with that much VM?

Sure is safe to run a large pagefile. And if it fixes the problem and if you have enough drive space, go for it.

Possible though that the problem will resurface when whatever is causing the error eats up the new and larger page file.

Some things that couldn't hurt and might help:
    - start~run~cmd and then chkdsk /f and let the system check your drive(s) and repair any file/folder errors.

    - run the pagefile on a drive other than the system drive if possible.

    - go to www.sysinternals.com and get their pagefiledefrag program and use it. Good stuff and free.

The pagefiledefrag does not need to be installed (and really can't be). And you will run into the 2K system file protection if you try to put pieces in certain system folders.

Try just putting all the pieces in a new folder under program files and run the exe from there. You can just extract the zip file contents and specify something like c:\program files\pagefiledefrag and it will create the folder for you and stuff the 3 files in the new folder.

To make sure they hadn't changed anything since I last got the program, I did the above and it ran normally.
