    Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude D610 running Windows XP Pro SP2. I installed 2 1 GB DIMMS of DDR2 memory to replace my existing 2 of 512. Machine is running fine, but when I right click my computer and hit properties, it says I only have a gig of RAM.

Dell specs say this machine supports up to 2 gigs of ram (1 per slot). Any idea why Windows doesn't see it?

    Thanks!

    Just a quick overview ..
    You had 2 x 512 - you removed both.
    You then installed 2x 1GB.
How did you choose memory sticks? Were they verified via Dell site or purchased site for compatibility for make/model computer??? (please answer this question) - If yes, continue.
Since (1) stick is recognized do one of the following ...

One stick is not properly seated.
Shut down computer, remove both, reinstall both. Be sure white tabs clicks/close when seated.
    If no luck ...

    One stick is bad.
    Shut computer off.
    Pull (1) stick.
Reboot computer, if reports properly (allow for shared memory if applicable /video card).
    REPEAT above step. Exchanging sticks.
For these two test, always use the SAME ram bank.
Let us know how test works out.

If you have a failure with either stick, repeat test in DIFFERENT ram bank. Test each stick individual.

Let us know how test works out.

Thanks, turned out to be a hasty post. The sticks were qualified via compatibility website. I switched the DIMMS and it worked fine. I'm guessing it was probably not seated properly. Laptop DIMMS not the best design!

Nice if all fixes were that easy. :)
