Im using the latest version, Im able to bring in Avi's and place them on the time line and then export no problem, the moment I try and add an effect, overlap avi's to create a transition- basically any other function..it closes the program instantly..no warnings, no error messages..just gone! I had used it extensively before with no problems.
Of course the first thing I want to do is reinstall-aha! But oh no..you can't download it from microsoft, only buy a CD for $10...grrrrr

Any ideas on what could cause this, any help appreciated

Thanks for the link! When I went there it made me download some windows updates, then it said I did'nt need any further updates

"Express install allows you to quickly download and install only the critical and security updates your computer needs.

Your computer appears to be up-to-date; no critical or security updates are available at this time. To view available optional updates for your computer, click the Home link, and then click Custom Install. Windows Update will scan for optional updates. You can review the updates before downloading. "

(#$& Microsoft! I just need to unistall and re-install..did they have to weave movie maker into the fabric of XP so thats impossible?!!

    Thanks anyway..

You should be able to install windows movie maker 2.1 from windows update (if you haven't done it before). Choose the custom option and when it's finished scanning your system click on "select optional software updates" in the left frame.

Uh yea I saw that but windows movie maker is'nt list as its already up to date on my machine, so it wont let me re-install it (or even uninstall it? ) so I guess I'll just buy the CD!

    Thanks for the suggestions anyway
