One of my customers has a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit computer with Service Pack 1 and all the updates. Recently after the updates about two months ago; Remote Desktop (being a Server) and using Windows Mobile Device Center to connect to an external USB data collector stopped functioning. The computer still does e-mail and connects to the Internet but now the computer can't be connected to remotely and it will not connect to an external USB device with Windows Mobile Device Center. I have turned off the firewall and temporarily uninstalled the computer's AVG anti-virus software, but the computer still can't talk with the USB device nor can it be accessed remotely. I changed the remote access port to a different port and made the necessary changes in their router but it still doesn't allow a connection nor does it connect to the USB device. Other Windows 7 computers in the office will connect to the USB device and they can also be remotely accessed. Does anyone know what could have happened to this computer?

Have you tried a System Restore to a time before the problem started? Neil.

No I haven't. I'm not sure now that there will be a previous restore point. It's been a few months now since the problem has started. I will see if I can figure out what date the problem was noticed and try a previous restore point. I believe that the problem started just after one of the previous Microsoft updates about three months ago. Thanks for responding. The problem is still not fixed, Remote Desktop and Mobile Device Center still doesn't work on this computer. I talked to the customer about doing a re-install of the OS and she doesn't want to go through that ordeal since she uses AutoCAD and it's very hard to get it back to working like it is now.

Hi NatGarrison. Have you looked at this article concerning remote desktop, Troubleshoot Remote Desktop problems?

Have you verified that the Remote Desktop Configuration, Remote Desktop Services and the Remote Desktop UserMode Port redirector services haven't been disabled?
