Until very recently Windows Media Player would play the sound component (as well as the video component) of XVid as well as VOB (DVD) video files. Today it only displays the video component.
Any ideas why the sound would suddenly disappeared? Normal AVI files play correctly as well as MP3 (sound files).
I guess it is probably a codec issue but why did it work ok the other day and not today and what do I need to do to fix the problem (I don't want to revert to a 'restore').

    Hi jparnold.

I have no idea. Computers can act strangely sometimes. Did you make any recent software change to the computer that may have caused this issue?

Do you have Windows Media Player 11 installed? See if installing the K-Lite Codec Pack fixes the problem.

    Thanks Evan.
I uninstalled DivX codecs, downloaded and installed K-Lite Codec pack (which by the way displayed during installation that some filters and decoders were 'broken' as the relevant registry keys were missing) not sure if that was the reason for my troubles) and now all video (formats) are playing the sound component.
    Thanks
